WOW, ANOTHER IDLE WEEK

Monday, September 20th, 2010

But not for long.  It appears markets want to churn higher, no matter how overbought and pricey many securities are becoming.  I am still hanging on to my i60 Index ETF.  If it drops below my buy level I will buy some more, keeping in mind my new flexible asset allocation portfolio. Enerplus Res. also continues to look promising, waiting for Natural Gas to go up in price. With winter coming a move should not be far behind. Meanwhile, there’s the monthly dividend.

There’s little chance bonds will drop enough to trigger a buy.  However, Emerging Markets are starting look interesting.  Real Estate also looks interesting but not enough to jump in.  Foreign Equities do offer the best prospects and I’m looking at the right ETFs to take advantage of possible opportunities.

I wont be able to report on my activities next week as I’ll be “On the road again” unless something special happens.

Adios for now

Another week with no action

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

It seems that the more we wish to do something, the less there is to do.  It is dangerous to jump into action when none is called for.

Our portfolio is climbing steadily with only two positions in place.  We’re ahead by about 4% since we started which isn’t much but at least it’s up, not down.

Perhaps I’ll have more to report next week.  Meanwhile I’ll sit tight.

Good luck,

I HAVE SOLD iSH CDN. MATERIALS

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

The sell signal was unmistakable so I sold the iSh Cdn Materials (XMA-T) holding from the portfolio at $21.01 for a 17% gain.  This leaves the i60 position as well as the sole remaining stock, Enerplus Res. (ERF.UN-T).  I just can’t make myself sell this stock while it sends me a nice dividend every month which still ads up to a yield of 9.5%.  In addition I do expect energy prices to rise during this fall and winter heating season, which should result in a sizable capital gain by spring. At $24.00 it still is a fair deal. Three years from now this could well be a $48.00 stock.  The dividends are extra.

Have a great week.
